LSES Workshop- Saturday, November 1, 2008
RECAP
Louisiana
Solar Energy Society held a workshop this past weekend, Saturday, November 1,
2008 from 9am-3:30pm. The topic of the workshop was, "How to Install Your
Own Solar Power System." People from all over Louisiana came out to learn
how solar works.
The day started out with a short presentation of LSES,
energy efficiency and the basics of solar, presented by Cece Hyslop.
Next, Josh Mayoral from Gulf South Solar gave a presentation on site analysis,
and how solar installers size up your home for solar. The attendees got to use and see how a Solar Pathfinder, and SunEye work.
The next presenter was Justin Runnels of Gulf South Solar who gave his
presentation on the different types of solar, the correct type for your home,
and the correct equipment that goes with each type of solar; PV, Solar Thermal,
and Solar Pool Heaters.
We had a lunch break where everyone got to interact with all the attendees and
instructors.
Out last and final presenter was Jeff Shaw, Director of LSES. He presented
all the information that goes into solar; from getting permits to knowing how to
correctly wire your system.
The last two hours of the workshop were hands on. The attendees got to
learn how to install a module on a roof, learn the different types of wires and
how they work, installing an inverter and much more.
Everyone had a great time and learned how installing solar isn't as easy as
1,2,3...
We want to thank Gulf South Solar for helping us by opening their warehouse to
have the workshop and by giving the presentations.
